Another one of my politcal passions is REAL BEAUTY. I work towards developing self-esteem in young women. By building our character, mind, and hearts we evoke true beauty. Fashion, beauty, style and mainstream magazines are guilty of promoting unbelievable body image goals for women. Images are airbrushed and altered severely and archetypes promote anorexia and bulimia. If Barbie were a real woman, she would topple over! This pic is of me (ctr) and my cousins doing our version of Charlie's Angels. We are nontypical beauties!

Self-Portrait Challenge - Grow

My greatest wish is for us to grow in consciousness as a human race with respect for and along side the planet that harbors us. For us to realize we are one with nature and indisputably one with her. I don't know how this has turned into a political message but it has - though innately it is not a political issue, but a human one. There are no joys we can obtain if we have no planet to reside on.

Blue Spanish Dancer II

I bought this doll when I was in Salamanca Spain, last September. I wanted to add another dancer to my living room mantel which is flocked by a few flamenco dancing dolls. I was in awe when I got home and realized she was the only BLUE flamenco doll I had or have ever seen! Most of all my dolls have red, black, pink or traditional peasant garb that is still in the red/black vein. In hindsight, I realize this was why when I was in the store, I gravitated to her specifically, as opposed to all the other rows of dolls in the store. I thought she (the doll)and I could share this weeks BLUE self-portrait challenge!

My Puerto Rican land burns a red-hot GREEN streak into my fingernails. My Puerto Rican Ocean burns a red-hot BLUE into my irises. My New York City concrete gray liquefies my fortress.
My memory burns brightly with the scalding heat of an iron my eyes are forever branded blue.

Self Portrait Blue February

Blue because of longing.

Blue because my lasts steps were five years ago...stomping my way into a marriage.
Blue because to me, the word Duende is untranslatable.

Blue because I simply miss stretching my body and knocking on Earth's door this way.

Blue because it was the last season in my native state. Blue that beckons me home.

This is an image of me from a series of polaroid image transfers that I took as I practiced my wedding dance out on my deck. I no longer live in that wonderful deck-river-view apartment. I no longer live in a place where flamenco classes are even accesible. I do however, live in a wonderful, blessed marital home, but too from from the things that were me.
