Currently MONTH OF SEPTEMBER 2013 I have a solo exhibit in Arnold Maryland at Anne Arundel Community College
Solo exhibit was April 10th-30th, 2010 in the Azucarera Gallery, Harlem NYC - stay tuned to my blog for any new OPENING news and times.
In the Madrid Exhibit 2007 portfolio:
I have included the images that were featured September 2007 in the Alianza Hispanica gallery in Madrid, Spain. These images were a response to a call for portraits of Ibero-Americanos in New York. I was one of nine photographers chosen for the show. By the wonderful support of my employer, The Dwight-Englewood School, I was able to attend the opening!
Recuentos, San Antonio, Texas 2008 portfolio:
Includes images of artwork from the San Antonio, Texas exhibit of Feb. 2008 at the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center. With this particular body of work I am responding to fellow artist Nova Gutierrez's work on her Aunt Lisa who was murdered by her spouse thirty years ago and explores domestic violence. With these paintings and illustrations, I'm exploring the way human life leaves stains, both metaphorically and literally. This is a concept that I have been working with in reference to survival and has emerged in my paintings, illustrations and photographs.
The 52 Exhibit, 2/20 Gallery Chelsea NYC Sept. 2008
This exhibit was a four person show themed around the Mexican card/bingo game called LOTERIA. The number 52 is that of a deck of cards and each artist had to consider the number. I chose to work with shrinky dinks and I illustrated the Loteria game images and text on this plastic directly and then allowed the risk of redusing to parallel the act of the game.
The Soul of Sweet Delight Exhibit, Azucarera, Harlem, NYC July 2009
This exhibit is a body of new illustrations that I have done in critical response to the reality show Toddlers and Tiaras, in which I used the cult phenomena of Blythe doll imagery to literally draw parallels between edible sweets and young female doll-like children. The theme of this show was to respond to the William Blake words 'Soul of Sweet Delight'.
Unearthly Woman 21 Gallery Chelsea NYC November 2009
This exhibit was a two woman show with visual artist Nova Gutierrez inspired by our distinct interpretations of woman in nature. For this exhibit I incorporated new figurative paintings of displaced and falling women and charcoal drawings of my mutated have animal half human female figures.
Is a body of photographs in which I am looking at how nature begins her subtle decomposition and the inherent beauty that I find in that process. After all, the bright, discoloration of the Fall leaves we tend to love so much is simply the death of a leaf.
Glasswork portfolio:
With my glasswork I have been exploring something else all together. By using powdered glass to draw illustrations onto a clear glass (Painting with Light), I have been processing the shift into my current life in suburbia from my past life in NYC with black birds. The majority of my family still resides in NYC and Puerto Rico. Birds migrate and move habitually, yet they often function within a community, most of which I am currently missing.
The Herstory project:
A visual art project designed and constructed around fostering self-esteem in young women of color through photography and painting. For this body of work, I have self-defined young women of color, pose in iconic compositions from art history in their contemporary guises inorder to take the place of the White European women who historically hold that image hostage. I am passionate about being an active force in changing the images our children see and the non-verbal cues they receive about self-worth and value in such a media-saturated world.
This you tube video is Hijas Americanas book trailer by Rosie Molinary. Many of my black and white photos are on it and many images of my family!!! This is a powerful video that all of our daughters (literal and metaphorical) should see.
